My New Yeti SB5 Mountain Bike

Having sold my Giant Trance mountain bike several months ago, I was in need of a new bike to ride. I recently purchased an Orbea Alma hardtail XC bike, but I needed a dual suspension bike. Fortunately, I work at Jenson USA and I was able to secure a Yeti SB5 mountain bike. Here are some quick stats:

  • Sram GX Eagle Kit
  • Fox 34 Fork
  • 150mm
  • Maxis tires and Fox dropper post
  • Medium size

Overall Impression

Coming from the Giant Trance, I was already on 27.5 wheels, so there was no issue in the transition. The drivetrain and suspension are definitely a step up from what I had been on. Basically, this bike just feels so much more planted over rough stuff, but still climbs up short and long grades pretty nice. As this is a carbon bike, I am pretty sure the 2 or 3 pound drop from the Trance to the SB5 helps me out in this area.

The Fit

I am a shade over 5’5″ with a 28″ inseam. Yes, I have pretty short legs. With legs like mine, it would seem that I should be on a small frame, but since I must have a longer torso, many of my bikes have been mediums. This allows my upper body to fit without needing to go to a longer stem.

Final Thoughts

I have had the bike for almost a month and I have been on a handful of rides so I am still getting a feel for the bike. The SB5 has been great at Snow Summit and Sky Park bike parks as well as on more mellow trails in the area. This bike seems to be a great all-around bike. More to follow.
